Import permit, rabies blood test (RNATT) and at least 180 days after the sample reaches the lab, plus tests for dogs (Leishmania, Leptospira, Brucella canis). Quarantine on arrival: 10 or 30 days.

Step by step

  1. First
    Microchip scan + optional identity declaration
    A USDA-accredited vet scans the microchip; completing the identity route cuts quarantine to 10 days (Part 3 endorsed within 3 months of the first scan).
  2. At least 185 days (~6 months) before
    Rabies blood test (RNATT)
    Drawn by an accredited vet. Export is allowed only at least 180 days after the sample arrives at the lab.
  3. Before export
    Australian import permit
    The permit sets your waiting period and the exact tests. Use the US-specific health certificate (VEHCS).
  4. As your permit saysdogs only
    Dog tests
    Leishmania infantum; Leptospira (waived if fully vaccinated); Brucella canis (waived if spayed/neutered) — approved test types only.
  5. Before departure
    USDA-endorsed export certificate + quarantine booking
    Quarantine on arrival: 10 days with the completed identity check, otherwise 30 days.

Watch out

  • Some Brucella test types are not accepted (e.g. 2ME-RSAT).
  • Hawaii and Guam pets follow different rules.
