Step by step

  1. At least 21 days before
    ISO microchip, then rabies vaccine
Microchip first (or at the same visit, scanned before the shot). Pet at least 12 weeks old. Travel no sooner than 21 days after a first rabies vaccination.
  2. Within 10 days before arrival
EU health certificate + USDA endorsement
A USDA-accredited vet issues the EU non-commercial certificate (new format since 1 Oct 2026). USDA APHIS must endorse it within 10 days of arrival.

Watch out

  • Microchip after the rabies shot = the vaccine does not count. Vaccinate again and wait 21 days.
  • More than 5 pets, a change of owner, or a pet flying without you needs the stricter commercial certificate (exam within 48 hours of departure).
  • Old certificate versions could only be endorsed until 30 Sep 2026.
