Step by step

  1. At least 21 days before
    Microchip + rabies vaccine
    Pet at least 12 weeks old at vaccination (15 weeks at import); at least 21 days between vaccination and travel.
  2. ≤ 12 months before travel
    Rabies titer blood test
    Result ≥ 0.5; drawn at least 21 days after a first vaccination. Allow time for the lab.
  3. 1–30 days before arrival
    MOCCAE import permit
    Valid for 30 days. Dogs also need distemper, parvo, hepatitis and leptospirosis vaccines; cats panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus.
  4. 1–14 days before arrival
    Parasite treatments
    External (e.g. fipronil) and internal (praziquantel) treatment within 14 days before travel.
  5. Within 10 days before arrival
    USDA-endorsed health certificate
    Valid 10 days after issue; travels with the pet.

Watch out

  • Only 2 cats, 2 dogs, or 1 of each per year.
  • Pets must travel as manifested cargo.
  • Banned: pit bull and mastiff types, Tosa, Presa Canario and their mixes.
