Bringing your pet to Singapore

Singapore puts the UK in its lowest-risk group: no rabies vaccine or blood test, no quarantine. You need an ISO microchip, core vaccines, a pet licence and import licence, an inspection booking and a health certificate endorsed 2–7 days before export.

Time you needAt least 7 days if you start from scratch
Easy to get wrong on this route
  • Applying for the import licence first — you need the dog or cat licence (PALS) before it.
  • Booking the arrival inspection less than 5 days ahead.
  • Parasite treatments outside the 2–7 days before export.

Step by step

  1. First
    ISO microchip + core vaccines
ISO 11784/11785 microchip, its number on every record. Dogs: distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus. Cats: calicivirus, herpesvirus and panleukopenia.
  2. Before arrival
    Pet licence, then import licence
Get the dog or cat licence first (PALS), then the AVS import licence — usually issued within 2 working days and valid for 90 days.
  3. At least 5 days before
    Book the arrival inspection
At least 5 days before arrival, through the AVS e-services portal.
  4. 2–7 days before arrival
    Parasite treatments + health certificate
2–7 days before export: parasite treatments by your vet, who fills in the Singapore health certificate; it must be endorsed by an official government vet.

Watch out

  • If your pet hasn’t lived in the UK for the last 6 months, AVS may treat it as coming from the country it was in before.
  • A captain’s declaration, signed by the airline, travels with the pet.
  • Pets must be at least 12 weeks old at export. Some dog breeds can’t be imported — check AVS’s list first.
  • These rules are for travel from England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland has its own.
